Pink Bike, Blue Woods.

Hello world.

Remember how Angela and I went on an amazing holiday to a sunny place where we got to be in the ocean everyday, see wonderful birds, eat fruits and generally just be really grateful for the experience? I came back inspired, refreshed, motivated. I’m still mostly two of those things, but the schedule on the show I’m working switched to nights.

That said, I’m still very grateful for the position I’m in. I’m just feeling significantly unrefreshed. It’s hard to be inspired (and motivated, very much tied to inspiration) when you’re living a vampire life in the drizzle of downtown Vancouver pulling cable in the night.

Anyways, this photo. This one made it on Instagram before here. It was, ultimately a let down on there. I’m personally excited about the image. Jason’s fancy new bike, on a new (last fall) trail that I thought would be a nice photo and I finally was able to try a lighting scheme I’d been thinking about for quite a while. I’m keen to shoot some more like this over the summer, when work’s current vampiric-state settles down a bit and the weather gets even more agreeable for bringing cameras and strobes out on the trails.

I’m trying to decide if this weekend I’m more motivated to go shoot bike racing on Sunday or go ride my bike myself. The main reason it’s a challenge decision for me is that I would like to just spend the time at home. It’s also going to be like three hours of driving round trip and another day away from my home and the girls (Angela, Ginger, Bowie and Becky) (and my own time on the bike). I know ultimately I want to go shoot the photos, but I also understand as much as I love photography it is work. When you’re already working 60 hours a week while the sun is down, the temptation is to go play in the sun.
